TrekStatus Nepal is an aggregator, not an authority. It reproduces short summaries of published material and links to the original publisher. It does not inspect trails, does not endorse operators or routes, does not give trekking advice, and does not tell anyone that a route is safe. We are not liable for any decision you make, any condition on the ground, or any error, delay or omission in the information shown. You must read the linked source and verify with the relevant authority before acting on anything here.
Source hierarchy
1 — Official government
DHM weather and hydrology, Nepal Tourism Board, Department of Immigration, national park and conservation authorities
Can set a trek to Significant warning or Official closure on its own.
1 — National disaster register (BIPAD)
Every geocoded landslide, flood, avalanche and storm recorded by the disaster authority
Raises an Advisory by default — the portal records an incident in the area, not the condition of the trail. Only a verified severe incident within about 3 km of a stop on the route — effectively on or beside the trail — escalates to a Significant warning. In mountain terrain anything further is usually another valley behind a ridge, so it is listed with its distance and left as an Advisory.
2 — Verified organisation
TAAN, Himalayan Rescue Association, USGS earthquake feed, registered operators
Can raise an advisory or warning, shown as non-government information.
3 — Weather and hydrology models
Open-Meteo coordinate forecasts for each waypoint
Shown as model output, never as an observation from the trail.

The Kathmandu Post, Onlinekhabar English, Nepal News, The Rising Nepal
Surfaces district-level disruptions days before any machine-readable feed. Always marked as journalism, never presented as an official notice, and never used to declare a route open.
Geographic matching
Each warning stores the affected area it was published for: a centre point, a radius and an optional elevation band. When a warning is written to the database, every trek waypoint is tested against that area. A trek is attached to the warning when at least one of its waypoints falls inside it, and the matched waypoint and its distance are stored so the match can be audited.
Use of AI
Automated summarisation may shorten retrieved text. It may never introduce a condition, a severity or a location that is not in the retrieved record, and every summary stays attached to the source URL, publication time and retrieval time it came from.
Limitations and liability
- Information may be outdated, miscategorised, or missing entirely.
- Automated geographic matching is approximate; a nearby incident may be in another valley and not affect the trail.
- Weather models are forecast output for a coordinate, not observations from the trail.
- We do not verify permits, bridge conditions, track openings or local rules in person.
- This site is provided as-is for trip planning only. You are solely responsible for verifying conditions and deciding whether to trek.
Where the information comes from
Warnings that carry a number — wind speeds on the high passes, river levels against the government's own warning and danger thresholds, weather at each waypoint — are published automatically, because the upstream states them unambiguously. Written notices from the tourism board, immigration and the park authorities are captured word for word and kept on record with their source link, but are never turned into a trek warning automatically, because they do not state which route they affect.
DHM mountaineering forecast

Nepali newspaper coverage
